Tempest: The secretive missile system said to have downed more than 20 Shaheds

Tempest missile system said to have made combat debut

An American air defence missile system called Tempest may have already been used in combat, according to footage released by Ukraine.

Video purports to show the system, which was developed by US firm V2X and fires Hellfire missiles, being driven around mounted on a buggy.

Additional footage shows the system firing at night. An operator known only as Shorty says the system has already shot down 21 Shahed drones.

US defence firm V2X debuted the Tempest platform at the 2025 Association of the United States Army exposition in Washington DC last October.

However, the system's transfer to Ukraine was not publicly announced.

The missile it fires, the US-made AGM-114 Hellfire, was originally developed for anti-armour use, but can also be employed in the surface-to-air role.
