Household Cavalry make a splash at the beach during training session ahead of summer duties

Watch: Trusted guardians of the King head to the beach for a break

City life isn't for everyone and sometimes it's nice to get away for a relaxing break by the sea – and that's just what the Household Cavalry has treated its horses to.

The prestigious unit took a break from its regular city duties and retreated to the serene and somewhat windy beach on Hayling Island for a training session that has become a regular tradition for the regiment.

With a hectic schedule of ceremonial parades planned for the upcoming summer season, the trusted guardians of the King are preparing for their important role.

The regiment explained: "Practising divisional routines on a range of different surfaces in new environments helps build soldier and equine experience and resilience.

"At the heart of this is the bond of trust between horse and rider."

It must have been quite a sight for locals walking their dogs as more than 20 horses made their way to the seafront.

While fun for all is encouraged, the programme also involves a tough regime of equestrian and military skills, building bonds between horses and troops all while enhancing the abilities of these professional fighting soldiers.
