And they're off! Welsh Guards enjoy Falklands festivities

The capital city of the Falkland Islands, Stanley, thunders to the sound of hooves with its annual race meeting.

Seeing how much fun can be had, the Welsh Guards got involved in the festivities and posted pictures on social media.

It is a Christmas tradition, with a horse race held in Stanley for more than a century on Boxing Day.

The Welsh Guards said on Instagram: "The Boxing Day horse races are a staple in the Stanley social calendar, held on the local race course.

"It's one of the most popular events for people who live on the Islands, especially in Stanley and the meeting has been held more than 100 times!"

Alongside the horse racing, there are other races for cash prizes including the 440-yard dash, a three-legged race, and plenty of fun and entertainment for all the family.
