The Battle of Arnhem Remembered 70 Years On

In September, veterans marked the anniversary of the Battle of Arnhem, with schoolchildren laying flowers on the graves of those who died there.

70 years ago British Paras from the 1st Airborne Division dropped on to Ginkel Heath, north west of Arnhem in Holland, charged with capturing bridges and key routes through the Netherlands to prevent the German advance.

Soldiers from 16 Air Assault Brigade joined veterans, Dutch civilians and airborne troops from across the world to mark the anniversary of a Second World War operation that defined the character of the British Army's airborne forces.

Paratroopers from across the world completed jumps in commemoration of the heroism displayed by troops during the battle.

Geoff Meade was at the ceremony and spoke to the veterans about their experiences.
