Nimitz-class aircraft carriers are the teeth of American foreign policy.
Since the 1970's they've patrolled the world's oceans, taking part in conflicts and operations including the Gulf Wars and the War in Afghanistan.
Powered by nuclear reactors they each carry around 90 aircraft on board - enabling the US to project the might of its air power into almost any part of the globe.
