A Slice Of Britain In The Med

When the Republic of Cyprus gained independence in 1960 the Sovereign Base Areas of Dhekelia and Akrotiri were retained as British territory.

Covering 98 square miles of land, they house the British bases and have their own legal system, police force, customs, marine and environment teams.

Carla Prater has been behind the scenes to see how the Sovereign Base Areas are run and why this little slice of Britain is so unique.
