"UK Should Pull Out of Human Rights Treaty During Wartime"

Britain should pull out of the European Convention on Human Rights during wartime as it is putting lives at risk and hampering the fighting power of British soldiers, according to a think-tank.

The centre-right 'Policy Exchange' group says military commanders are now having to adopt a "safety first" approach on the battlefield for fear of getting sued by enemy combatants and the families of fallen comrades.

It says British troops fighting abroad are now being held to the same standards as police officers patrolling the streets on a Saturday night in London's West End.
