King and Queen meet personnel on Royal Navy frigate in Bordeaux during state visit

Watch: King and Queen go aboard HMS Iron Duke in Bordeaux.

King Charles and Queen Camilla have been welcomed on board HMS Iron Duke during the last leg of their state visit to France.

The King and Queen toured the Royal Navy Type 23 frigate after being cheered and applauded by crowds in Bordeaux.

The royal couple were greeted by the French minister of defence upon their arrival in the southwestern city, which is home to around 39,000 Britons.

They met UK and French military personnel to hear how the two nations are collaborating on defence.

The King and Queen were given a musical accompaniment by the Band of His Majesty's Royal Marines Lympstone and were welcomed to HMS Iron Duke by a Royal Guard and the National Anthem performed by the Royal Marines musicians.

An official reception was held on the warship's flight deck, attended by local people, representatives of veterans' charities and government officials.

"It has been the greatest privilege and honour for HMS Iron Duke to be able to support Their Majesties' first State Visit to France since the Coronation," said HMS Iron Duke's Commanding Officer, Commander James Wallington-Smith.

"The visit is an opportunity to mark our long-standing relationship with our friends in the Marine Nationale [French navy] and wider French armed forces. It reinforces our shared values and continues to ensure our navies are evolving to be ever more interoperable, capable and sustainable."

Watch: Red Arrows and French counterparts welcome King and Queen to Paris

Earlier this week, the Red Arrows and their French air force counterparts treated King Charles and Queen Camilla to a flypast as they arrived in Paris at the start of their three-day state visit.

Charles and Camilla landed at Paris' Orly Airport before heading to the Arc de Triomphe, where they paid tribute to the French and British soldiers who were lost during the two world wars at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

The royal pair, who were welcomed by a guard of honour from the French Army, watched the Red Arrows fly over the capital along with French aerobatic display team Patrouille de France.
