Explained: The UK and allied capabilities by Middle East region as Israel-Gaza conflict escalates

Tensions in the Middle East have spiked, and Western vessels have already deployed to the region, including significant UK capabilities that were already close by.

Two British ships from the Royal Fleet Auxiliary (RFA) – which supports the Royal Navy – have been sent to waters around Cyprus to the west of Israel and Syria, while a Royal Navy Type 45 destroyer and two US Carrier Strike Groups are also in the area.
