Oooh friends: When The Inbetweeners lads visited peacekeeping troops in Cyprus
With news of the cast of iconic British comedy The Inbetweeners reportedly returning to the small screen for a reboot, we thought we'd delve into our archives for when three of the lads visited British troops deployed on UN peacekeeping operations in Cyprus.
Joe Thomas, Simon Bird and James Buckley – who play Simon, Will and Jay in the series – dropped in on 2nd Battalion the Mercian Regiment at their barracks in Nicosia, and 2nd Battalion The Royal Yorkshire Regiment in Episkopi, in November 2014.
Much to the amusement of those involved, the actors were kitted up to try out a bit of public order training for themselves which, Joe said, didn't help his hangover.
As well as posing for photos with the troops, they were taken to meet the battalion's boxing squad, took a trip in a Foxhound patrol vehicle and played a quick game of five-a-side football.
The fourth member of the cast, Blake Harrison, who portrayed the character Neil, was missing from the visit, but for a good military-related reason.
He was elsewhere filming for the 2016 Dad's Army movie in which he played the endearing Private Pike.

Known for playing hapless teenagers in The Inbetweeners, the actors have since diversified their careers.
Simon Bird is due to appear in 2027's Star Wars: Starfighter alongside Ryan Gosling and Amy Adams, and In Sickness and in Health podcast co-host James Buckley appeared with Fresh Meat's Joe Thomas in Oasis: The Reunion: The Movie, a short sketch for Comic Relief's Red Nose Day.
