The Royal Regiment of Scotland has said it is working hard to take back control of its official Instagram account after it was hacked.

The feed for the Scottish infantry unit’s social media page was taken over on Tuesday after its security was compromised.

The page usually shows imagery for events and the activities of the regiment’s five regular and two reserve battalions.

However, the account has been taken over and has posted the logo for a Brazilian furniture store as well as other images unrelated to the Army.

The regiment said the page was protected by a secure password and it was working to resolve the issue.

Its other social media channels have been unaffected by the breach and are continuing to function normally.

A statement put out on the regiment’s other media channels said: "We are aware of an issue with one of our social media channels and are working hard to resolve it.

"Thank you to everyone that has brought it to our attention."

The Royal Regiment of Scotland is the senior line infantry regiment and the only Scottish line infantry in the British Army.

It was formed in 2006 after the amalgamation of the historic Scottish regiments.
