The Royal Navy's HMS Richmond has been joined by a Poseidon aircraft while exercising in the Baltic Sea.

The Type-23 frigate is currently exercising with the Joint Expeditionary Force (JEF) - a military alliance that looks to maintain security in Northern Europe.

The Poseidon MRA1 (P-8A) supported HMS Richmond whilst the ship worked with partners and allies - with the JEF made up of the UK, Denmark, Finland, Estonia, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Sweden and Norway.

The ship had been expected to take part in NATO's Exercise Cold Response - which sees roughly 30,000 troops from more than 25 countries train together.

NATO said Exercise Cold Response, the largest Arctic exercise for 30 years, which includes 200 aircraft and 50 vessels, was "not linked to Russia's unprovoked and unjustified invasion of Ukraine".
