Edinburgh Goes The Extra Mile On Poppy Day

The collection tins were out in force on the streets of Edinburgh today to mark Poppy Day.

As crowds gathered in St Andrew Square to enjoy music, memorabilia and even a Spitfire, poppy sellers worked hard to hopefully raise £2 million.

Poppyscotland is using this year’s campaign to encourage people to go the extra mile by showing their support.

A host of MSPs took the challenge of going the extra mile quite literally, by jumping on the 'poppy bike' and racing against to mark the remembrance period.

The poppy sellers will continue their efforts until Remembrance Sunday next weekend.

The Scottish Poppy Appeal is Scotland’s largest annual street collection, last year the campaign raised an impressive £2.9 million.

Poppyscotland relies on around 10,000 volunteers to ensure the poppies are distributed in time for Remembrance Sunday.
