Officials from Wiltshire Council have visited British Forces in Germany to discuss the final phase of rebasing to the UK.

A year from now, Britain’s last combat troops based in Germany will have left, but some Army facilities once expected to close will now stay open until at least 2023.

The majority of units based in Germany are relocating to Wiltshire, with around 40% of soldiers and families expected to move into new housing.

Baroness Jane Scott, Wiltshire Council Leader said: "We know it's going to be a big change, it is a big change.

"We're going to make that as easy for them as possible and support them through it."

In preparation for the return of personnel and their families from British Forces Germany changes to roads and schools have been made.

Local authority speakers from Wiltshire council presented on subjects including education, healthcare, spousal employment and welfare support.

The last 917 houses are being completed and built by Lovell, new roads have been built, and adaptations have been made to existing primary and secondary schools in preparation for the arrival of these units and their personnel.
