One Of RAF's Finest Characters Passes Away

Jack Perry has been described as one of the RAF’s finest characters.

After he was left with 1st-degree burns to his face following an explosion, he kept his ability to live life and find love.

His wife of 67 years described their first meeting:

“During the war, we’d have lots and lots of dances. He was in a convalescent home, having a series of operations. We were invited to see them and dance with them’

“I thought he was very cocky when I first met him!”

Jack was an early member of the “guinea pig club” with a group of other soldiers who had suffered burns.

They became the subjects of pioneering tests, which went on to save thousands of lives.

Speaking about his father’s attitude towards the club, Jack’s son said:

“They supported each other- these guys who had gone through awful atrocities managed to pull themselves back.”

Sadly, Jack has recently passed away, but his family is grateful for the outpouring of support they have received in the wake of his death.
