Prince Of Wales And Duchess Of Cornwall Pay Tribute To Fallen Canadians

Prince

The Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall have paid tribute to the scores of Canadian military who died while on operations in Afghanistan.

Charles and Camilla, who are on a three-day tour of Canada,  honoured those who paid the ultimate sacrifice fighting in conflict by laying floral tributes at a national memorial near Toronto.

As a bugler played the last post the prince and duchess stood still, then observed a minute's silence.

Canada lost 158 members of its armed forces for their involvement in the Afghanistan conflict.

Earlier at Canadian Forces Base Trenton, the duchess met officers and soldiers from the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, a unit she supports as their honorary Colonel-in-Chief.

Warrant Officer Adam de Bartok, who completed a number of tours of Afghanistan, chatted to Camilla with his wife Cassandra.

He said: "She asked my wife whether she sat at home and worried, I said 'it goes with the territory'."I think she understood, she's from a military family",

"She said 'that's why your so wonderful' and she was proud to wear the (regiment's) brooch."

"It was a huge honour to actually meet her in person, we have her photograph everywhere."
