
Success for RAF boxing duo after progressing onto English Amateur Championship finals

Royal Air Force boxers Cameron Lewis and Amelia Kennedy have qualified for the the England National Amateur Boxing Championship finals after winning their semi-final bouts in Rotherham.
Cameron Lewis, who was the vice-captain of the winning RAF team at the Inter Services Championships, won his bout against Tyneside's Chris Kouadio in the men's U80kg category by a unanimous decision.
Amelia Kennedy also won her bout, beating Lionheart's Lehanna Valentine in the women's U54kg category by a split points decision.
Both will progress onto the finals in Derby on 18 April where they will be boxing for an English National Amateur Championship title.
They have also been invited to be assessed at the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield at the end of April where they will be considered for the England Boxing senior squad, as well as GB Boxing's World Class programme.
Elsewhere, other UK Armed Forces boxers competing in the semi-finals lost their fights in Rotherham, thus failing to qualify for this weekend's finals.
RAF teammates Jennifer Sabine and Frankie Lyall missed out on a finals berth after narrowly losing their bouts in the women's competition.
Sophie Colbourn (Royal Navy) and Terri Stuart (British Army) also missed out on a place in a finals with both losing their fights by a unanimous decision.
Royal Marine Commando Dominik Zieba has impressed so far this season, but could not get past Barton Hill's Dominic Owoo in the men's U85kg category, losing his fight by a unanimous decision.
In the quarterfinals earlier in the weekend, Royal Marine William Winwood and Army soldier Jack Lorja did not progress further onto the semi-finals after both lost their bouts.
