RAF Hit Islamic State Targets In Mosul

Airstrike

British forces have carried out airstrikes in an attempt to help free the remaining ISIS-held area of Mosul.

A mixed Tornado/Typhoon pair provided support to the Iraqi forces clearing the Old City in Mosul, wiping out three Daesh positions, whilst a Paveway IV was used to destroy a machine-gun team.

A similar mission was undertaken on Friday, July 7, with Royal Air Force Typhoons eliminating a sniper team and another group of terrorists firing on Iraqi troops.

RAF aircraft provided close support to Iraqi troops on the ground as they fought to clear a cluster of Daesh-held buildings in the last significant pocket IS-controlled territory Mosul.

On Saturday, July 8, Typhoons conducted attacks with four Paveway IVs, eliminating several terrorist strongholds.

Mixed pairs of Tornados and Typhoons operated over both Mosul and Raqqa. In Mosul, the Iraqi ground forces encountered three groups of snipers, all of which were successfully struck with Paveways.

Tornados meanwhile continued to support the SDF in Raqqa, striking a Daesh position. Typhoons hit a further target in Raqqa on Sunday 9 July,

Prime Minister Abadi visited the city of Mosul to mark its liberation following the airstrikes.
