Breaking down barriers: Ranger Regiment's explosive skills put to the test
The Ranger Regiment, the British Army's Special Operations-capable force, has been practising the art of breaching at a disused quarry in Somerset.
Forcing your way through a door is not as simple as it looks in the films, requiring knowledge and expertise.
The video above shows the Rangers learning how to make strip charges using a mix of detonation cord and items that could be scavenged from their operational environment.
The soldiers are able to combine items that are readily available, like carpet tape and hosepipe, with det cord in order to blow off some doors, demonstrating that wherever they are in operating in the world they can easily source the kit they need.
But they are also able to use manual means of gaining entry to a building using specialised tools such as hammers and pry-bars.
