British Soldiers Get Muddy On Live Firing Exercise
The Royal Scots Dragoon Guards (SCOTS DG) have completed their first live firing exercise back on UK soil.
The regiment has been forced to get to grips with several big changes over recent months not least of which was rebasing home to Scotland after 30 years on the continent.
After 75 years in tanks, the move to light cavalry means it's time for some intense training in Cumbria.
SCOTS DG Commanding Officer Lt Col Dom Coombes, stressed the importance of this exercise. He said:
“Being based back in the UK affords us a great opportunity to carry out training on home soil as we remain physically ready for a broad range of tasks.
"This is especially important now, as later in the year we shall become the lead Light Cavalry Battlegroup, on high readiness to deploy overseas should we be required.
"Whilst global conflict remains volatile, ensuring that we know how to operate our vehicles and our weapons with confidence and accuracy is paramount to us being effective when it really counts.”
The SCOTS DG moved from Germany to Scotland last year under the Army’s re-basing programme.
Our reporter Hannah King joined them on exercise in Warcop.
