Once a Gunner, always a Gunner: Artillery Day marked by Master Gunner

The Royal Regiment of Artillery commemorated Artillery Day with a resonant message from the Master Gunner, Lieutenant General Sir Andrew Gregory.
In his address, Lt Gen Sir Andrew extended his heartfelt greetings and best wishes to all members of the Royal Artillery, both serving and retired, as well as their families across the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth.
He encouraged everyone to remain vigilant, stay safe and uphold the proud motto of the regiment: 'Quo Fas et Gloria Ducunt' – 'Where Right and Glory Lead'.
Also known as the Gunners, the Royal Artillery has been active since 26 May 1716.
Highlighting the important place of the Royal Artillery within the British Armed Forces, the Master Gunner wrote: "The requirement for our equipment and capabilities in conducting modern warfare is strictly in focus in Eastern Europe and our contribution to training the Ukrainian forces has been significant."
Addressing the challenges faced by some members of the regimental family, Lt Gen Sir Andrew wrote: "I am conscious that some of our family are, for whatever reason, struggling. This is when our regimental charitable networks come to the fore.
"It does not matter how long somebody has served; the timeless adage, 'Once a Gunner, always a Gunner' should never be forgotten."
This year's Artillery Day holds special significance following the announcement in August 2023, when the King graciously accepted the role of Captain General of the Royal Regiment.
