An Old Honour For Modern Warriors

Medieval practices aren't normally associated with anything good, but the granting of 'Freedom of the city' or 'borough', in this case, is a tradition worth keeping.

It dates back to medieval times and feudalism when respected citizens were awarded 'Freedom of the City' to keep them excluded from serfdom, which required peasants to labour on the lands of a nobleman.

But although feudalism is gone, the tradition of handing out the recognition to deserving individuals or groups lives on as an honorary title.

Now, Royal Marines Reserves have been given the Freedom of the London Borough of Wandsworth, and to mark the occasion, 100 reserves, cadets and veterans marched through the streets.
