REME win Field Gun competition at HMS Collingwood for second time in two years

REME win Field Gun competition at HMS Collingwood

For the second year in a row, a team from the REME has taken the prestigious Brickwoods Trophy at the Royal Navy Royal Marines Charity Field Gun competition, which takes place annually at HMS Collingwood in Hampshire.

Field Gun is rooted in Royal Navy tradition, going back to the Second Boer War, when sailors from HMS Terrible and HMS Powerful hauled two 4.7in guns and four 12-pounder naval guns, over rough terrain, to try to relive the siege of Ladysmith.

Since 1907, various versions of Field Gun competitions have taken place, and the field of competition has been opened up to all services. This year three crews from overseas competed: JFC Naples, Cyprus and Gibraltar, who took part for the first time in seven years.
