WATCH: Massive RAF VC10 Safely Negotiates Final Journey... Just
An RAF VC10, that served the Air Force for almost 50 years, has safely negotiated a complicated journey to its new home at the RAF Cosford Museum.
The transport aircraft was part of a fleet that was retired from service 18 months ago, and has now made a final 10-hour, 70 mile, road journey from Leicestershire to Shropshire.
Drivers had no option but to take the mammoth 93-foot long fuselage of the aircraft on a tricky route through narrow streets and small town roads, as it was too large to pass under Cosford railway bridge.
It couldn't land at RAF Cosford, meanwhile, because the runway wasn't long enough.
The VC10 will now be reassembled to go on permanent display in the autumn, with the whole process costing around £200,000.
And it'll be in good company - sitting at the entrance to the museum next to another behemoth - the C-130 Hercules.
