Highlights From The 70th Anniversary of VE Day

Second World War veterans were at the heart of commemorative events over the weekend to mark 70 years since Victory in Europe (VE) Day.

A special service was held at Westminster Abbey attended by Her Majesty The Queen and other senior members of the Royal Family.

And around 1,000 veterans and their families took part in a parade along Whitehall afterwards to thank them for their unstinting service, sacrifice and courage.

Churches and cathedrals across the UK, meanwhile, rang their bells to mark the anniversary.

Forces TV's Jessie Phillips was at Liverpool's commemorations...

Fiona Weir, meanwhile, took a look at the events held in Ireland to mark the anniversary.

Despite the country's neutrality during the Second World War, thousands of men left the Irish Defence Forces and signed up to serve in the ranks of the British Army during the conflict.

When they returned many were branded as deserters - and it was only in 2013 that they were finally pardoned by the Irish government.
