How To Release A Snagged Parachutist

A video of a British Army parachute jump gone wrong has gone viral after resurfacing on social media.

The footage, taken a number of years ago, shows a parachute jumper getting stuck on the way out of an aircraft, after his static line gets caught around his equipment hook.

A nail-biting scenario then ensues, with the jumper hanging helpless as his team-mates work to save him.

Thankfully, they're eventually able to successfully deploy a HUPRA (Hung-Up Parachutist Release Assembly), which exists for this sole scenario.

The HUPRA consists mainly of a second parachute that is attached to the aircraft anchorage cable, which enables the release of the fouled line.

A source also told Forces TV that the British military now uses a completely new parachute jump system, which has cut the chances of this type of incident happening again considerably.
