A huge thank you for all you do each day and every day, Prime Minister tells personnel

PM uses Christmas message to offer thanks to Armed Forces

The Prime Minister has offered his thanks to the men and women serving in the Armed Forces for their hard work in keeping the nation safe.

Sir Keir Starmer explained in his Christmas message how he had witnessed military personnel at work – from a submarine crew coming home after a long tour, to the people training Ukrainian troops on Operation Interflex and all those involved in Carrier Strike Group 25.

In addition to offering forces personnel his own gratitude, Sir Keir also told them how millions of people across the country would love to be able to deliver that same message – a huge thank you.

The Prime Minister's Christmas message in full

"Thank you. Thank you for what you do for our country, every single day, 24 hours a day, to keep us safe.

"And we know that we rely on what you do every single day of the week.

"So thank you for that, particularly as we go into the Christmas period, because I'm acutely aware that not all of you will be able to go home at Christmas, and we really appreciate the sacrifice, and the commitment and the professionalism that you put in on our behalf.

"This year has been quite an incredible year for me.

"I went to meet one of the nuclear subs as it was arriving back in, which was an incredible privilege, to see the service and the commitment of those coming off the sub after many, many, many days underwater, keeping us safe.

"I've seen some of the training that we do jointly for the Ukrainians who are going to the frontline, which is really inspiring.

"And of course, I went to the Carrier Strike Group as it was starting off on that incredible tour that it's been on for several months now.

"And each of those occasions has given me an even deeper sense of what you do, and the driving sense of purpose in what you do, in keeping our country safe, keeping Europe safe and keeping us safe globally, so thank you.

"And lastly, I'd say this. I am speaking to you directly as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.

"There are millions and millions of UK citizens who would love to be in front of this camera, saying thank you to you.

"These are millions of people you'll obviously never meet, that you keep safe, and they would love to stand here and say thank you.

"So on my own behalf and their behalf, a huge thank you."
