Forces TV's Tim Cooper has gone out on patrol with two military veterans who now work as special constables for Hampshire Constabulary.
 
The police force is keen to recruit former service personnel because of the similar disciplines and skills needed in both kinds of work.
 
Being a special constable is a commitment of time over a potentially long period for no financial return.

It brings benefits like a sense of purpose and of community engagement.
 
For some former military personnel, it brings back a little of what they might be missing from the Royal Navy, British Army or Royal Air Force.
