British Army yacht retains the team title in the Services Offshore Regatta

Watch: Military sailors compete in this year's Services Offshore Regatta

The British Army have retained their title in this year's Services Offshore Regatta following a week of hard-fought sailing between the three services.

Six yachts from each service competed throughout the week, which started with a race from Cowes, on the Isle of Wight, to Brixham in Devon.

The Army boat named Fujitsu British Soldier was the favourite to retain the title, but they faced stiff competition from the Royal Navy, who came armed with their new rig named Sovereign.

Fujitsu British Soldier took the lead in their race down the English Channel to Brixham, where they would join other civilian boats in the Savills Passage Race down to Dartmouth, which Fujitsu British Soldier went on to win.

The six teams then raced in the four-day Dartmouth Royal Regatta, going up against stiff competition from other civilian boats.

The Royal Navy boat named Gannet took the title in the Cruiser 2 class following the four days.

Fujitsu British Soldier also enjoyed success in the Dartmouth Royal Regatta after winning the IRC 1 class.

But the Inter Services title, which is decided based on a reverse scoring format, would once again go to Fujitsu British Soldier, who went on to win the title with seven points on the board.

Navy boat Sovereign racked up too many points to challenge the Army as they placed second on 16 points.

Royal Air Force boat Red Arrow placed third on 18 points.

Plans for next year's Services Offshore Regatta are already in motion, which could see military sailors racing down to the Channel Islands.
