UKAF Women's Captain Wants 'More Numbers' Involved In Military Cricket
The captain of the UKAF women’s cricket team has called for more people to get involved with the service sport.
Lieutenant Commander Hazel Garton was speaking after her team’s eight-wicket victory over the MCC.
Lt Cdr Garton is hoping that a rise in numbers could see a new level of military cricket explored.
She said: "We’ve got a good squad here this weekend. We are only a few players off our full-strength I would say.
"I think, performance-wise, we are definitely getting there.
"I would still like to see more numbers and I’d love to be in a position where all three services almost have a development side.
"It would be great if we can get to a development Inter Services in maybe two or three years time.
"That would be fantastic."
When discussing the victory over the MCC, Garton was pleased with the performance.
"It makes me really proud to skipper the side but also for the girls to respond in the way we have today," she said.
"In both bat and ball, I don’t think we have put many feet wrong."
