Two-time Olympic gold medallist Victoria Pendleton leads spin class on HMNB Clyde visit

HM Naval Base Clyde has had a superstar visitor as two-time Olympic gold medallist Victoria Pendleton came to the base in her role as Honorary Colonel in the Royal Marines Reserve.
The former cyclist was picked up by a Royal Marines vessel behind the Braehead Shopping Centre in Glasgow and transferred across the River Clyde to the base by 43 Commando's Boat Group.
Her visit to the base allowed her to meet some of the elite commandos working there and see first-hand the environment in which the Royal Marines operate.

She visited an Astute-class vessel and even had time to lead personnel through a spin class at the base's Sportsdrome facility.
Pendleton was appointed an Honorary Colonel in July 2024 and it was a day to remember for personnel on the base.
"It was fantastic to welcome Olympic gold medallist Victoria Pendleton for a tour and spinning class," said Leading Physical Trainer Jake Lavender.
"Meeting someone who has achieved so much on the world stage was a real privilege, and her enthusiasm and down-to-earth attitude made the experience even more memorable.
"Victoria’s visit was a huge inspiration to everyone involved and highlighted the positive impact that elite athletes can have in motivating others to pursue their own fitness goals."
As part of her visit, she went to Loch Lomond and met members of the HMS Oardacious rowing team who are preparing for the World's Toughest Row later this year.
Warrant Officer Class One Iain Walker said: "Her experience as an Olympic champion is incredible, and the insights she shared on mindset and performance under pressure are invaluable as we finalise our preparations for the World’s Toughest Row this December."
