10-man UKAF retain trophy after win over Irish Defence Forces

Watch: UKAF edge out Irish Defence Forces in thrilling tight match to keep trophy

The UKAF men's footballers have retained the Perpetual Friendship Trophy after beating the Irish Defence Forces 1-0 in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.

The sides both came close with early chances, but headed into the break locked at 0-0.

The two sides were full of respect for each other, playing with similar styles and formations, trying to break the deadlock in the County Antrim mist.

Elliot Holmes did the honours around the hour mark for the men in white, with a nice bit of football from Greg Peel on the right, looking up and crossing to Holmes, who merely needed to tap in and put UKAF ahead.

Luke Preen's red card, for a challenge up front, made things interesting in the final moments of the match, but UKAF held on to win the annual fixture for the third consecutive year, and retain their crown.

It comes after UKAF women defeated their Irish counterparts with a 7-0 win in Lisburn.

Despite a slow start in the first half, they changed gears in the second half to win the silverware.
