RAF's Dan McNamara and Wolves excited to lead Women's FA Cup national TV coverage

RAF football's Dan McNamara is leading Wolves to a phenomenal season so far in the Women's National League Northern Premier Division, but they're about to break new ground in the Women's FA Cup.

The team sit second in the division, but are unbeaten after nine games and when you add in cup victories, they've won 13 out of 14 matches this season.

Their second-round fixture against Stoke City has been picked for TV coverage with TNT Sports - another step in the campaign to highlight women's football at more divisions than just the Women's Super League.

"The girls are excited and are looking forward to it, but it's going to be bring something a little bit different that none of us have experienced before," said the Wolves head coach.

"There is football outside of the WSL. Tier 3 has some outstanding players now who aren't necessarily not good enough to play in the professional game, but can't do it because of work commitments and the logistics behind being a professional footballer now.

"It's brilliant to see tier 3 involved in these national broadcasts and hopefully, we can put on a show."

BFBS Forces News went behind-the-scenes as Dan McNamara and Wolves took on Brighton in the Women's FA Cup in 2024.

McNamara’s Wolves team are no strangers to a cup run and have hosted high-profile teams such as Manchester United, West Ham United and Brighton in recent years.

The head coach won’t be the only Forces personnel involved in the cup this weekend and he will be keeping a keen eye on his UKAF friends and their results.

He said: "I'm a massive advocate of the service and forever thankful for what the RAF have helped me achieve over the last few years.

"A couple of close friends, Karl Milgate [UK Armed Forces head coach] and Cat Beaver [RAF and UKAF captain], I'll be keeping a close eye on their results. We're involved in UKAF football as well and a lot of those girls will be involved in FA Cup action.

"I'm always keen to find out how everyone has got on and you want every military personnel to go as far as they can in the competitions."
