Royal Navy cruise through to Hampshire Cup second round with victory over Blackfield & Langley

Highlights from the Royal Navy's season opener in the Servio Hampshire Senior Cup

The Royal Navy senior men's team have kicked off their season with a commanding 4-1 victory over Blackfield & Langley FC in the first round of the Servio Hampshire Senior Cup.

Missing several key players due to deployments, this was a chance for the Senior Service to blood some new players as they set their sights on winning next year's Inter Services Championships.

Midfielder Oliver Ward scored a hat-trick of goals, scoring twice in the first half and then coming back to score his third in the second.

Ward almost made it four goals in the final minutes of the second half, but a deflection presented an opportunity for substitute Benjamin Aldous to get onto the scoresheet, and his strike made it four goals for the Senior Service.

The Wessex Premier Division side, Blackfield & Langley, only managed one goal from their right winger Ewang Derrik in the first half.

The Navy will progress on to the second round where they will face Portsmouth-based team Moneyfields FC at a later date.

They reached the second round in 2024 where they were knocked out by the Baffins Milton Rovers.

The furthest the Navy have ever reached in the Servio Hampshire Senior Cup is the quarter-finals in 2023.
