RAF women dominate Army to retain Basketball Inter Services title
The Royal Air Force women's basketball team have dominated the Inter Services after they beat the Army 38-67 to clinch the trophy for the second year in a row.
Their win comes after they won over the Navy 57-35 on the first day, putting them in a strong position coming into their encounter with the Army after the reds lost in their match against the Royal Navy 41-49.
Their win marks the eighth time the RAF women have won the Inter Services since the women's game was introduced in 1989.
The Army looked to have control of the game in the opening first quarter with the RAF missing a few shots which put the light blues on the back foot at 16-13 to the Army at the end of the first quarter.
After a short break, the light blues found their footing and mounted a comeback on the Army including some incredible three pointers.
The Army had a challenge holding off the light blue resurgence, but come half time the reds found themselves at a 22-30 disadvantage behind the RAF.
After half-time the Army looked to regain points they had lost to the RAF, but the light blues started the second half as they left off with well negotiated passes and consistent scoring to keep them in the lead at 34-51 at the end of the third quarter.
The Army looked to be struggling against a RAF team who were on top on their game, as the reds tried everything to make up the deficit to catch the light blues before full-time.
At full-time, the RAF retain their Inter Services title with a 38-51 win over the Army in a dominant display.
