The new British Army Boxer fighting vehicle variant has been driven off the production lines, MOD has announced.

The new drive module Boxer armoured infantry vehicle will be fitted with the RCH 155 (Remote Controlled Howitzer 155mm) which can fire up to nine rounds a minute.

The Boxer is set to become the new British Mechanised Infantry Vehicle (MIV).

The new module of the eight-by-eight-wheeled, all-terrain, armoured transport vehicle is currently being built at the KNDS's (KMW+NEXTER Defense Systems) factory in Stockport.

The vehicle is understood to be rapidly adaptable and can be utilised efficiently to transport troops into battle.

The vehicle was tested last year under a series of special trials.

Minister of State for the Ministry of Defence, James Cartlidge was seen visiting the factory in Stockport where the Boxers were to come off the production lines.

During his visit, he met and spoke with workers at the facility, including fitters and welders.

The Boxer vehicle is expected to be completed later this year.
