A Storm is coming to Ukraine – but not the one Russia would have you believe

Watch: Storm, Ukraine's latest amphibious military vehicle

The Storm multi-role armoured vehicle is Ukraine's latest piece of kit in development – set to be the new kid on the block of amphibious military vehicles.

Its design claims to be the first to take advantage of a hybrid-electric power chain, with an 18 to 36-hour range in hybrid mode, or eight-and-a-half hours in diesel generator-only mode.

It will also have an estimated top speed of 88mph on land, with two and a half hours of operation – or 21mph on water for eight hours – all on one battery charge.

Storm can carry up to 10 personnel and is being designed for exceptional mobility and reliability, incorporating the latest ballistic, IED and mine blast protection technology.

Research and development company Highland Systems is testing prototypes right now, with another variant capable of complete submersion.
