Ukraine pleads for more Western support as Russian drone and missile strikes intensify
A major Russian attack involving more than 100 drones against 15 Ukrainian regions has triggered a renewed call from Kyiv for more Western support to help defend the nation.
Multiple areas were targeted overnight by Russian forces, resulting in damage to commercial and residential buildings, with at least eight people being injured.
Despite shooting down 78 out of 105 Russian drones and jamming 23 others, President Volodymyr Zelensky insisted more help is still needed to protect Ukraine.
Mr Zelensky said: "Kharkiv, Saltivka, an ordinary residential building hit by a Russian bomb.
"A search is underway for all those who may have been injured.
"At this time, it is known about eight wounded. All will be provided with the necessary assistance.
"And in order for such Russian attacks to stop, Ukraine must receive the necessary and, most importantly, sufficient help from the world, from its partners.
"Every leader knows exactly what needs to be done. It is important to be decisive."
The capital city of Kyiv was targeted, with the Ukrainian air force successfully downing 15 drones during a five-hour air alert.
According to the capital's military administration, drone debris fell in the Desnianskyi district, but no fires were caused.
Power lines in the southern region of Odesa were also damaged during the attacks.
Six commercial buildings in the central Ukrainian region of Poltava were also damaged, including a school for young children.
Ukrainian reports also said the air force destroyed 16 drones in the Cherkasy region, where debris from the downed drones caused a forest fire.
