Huge achievements made by Op Interflex as Ukraine marks third year of war

As Ukraine marks the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion, the UK-led Operation Interflex has proven to be a critical pillar of support, strengthening Ukraine's Armed Forces and significantly enhancing their battlefield capabilities.
Since its launch in June 2022, Operation Interflex has trained 51,000 Ukrainian recruits, transforming them from civilians into combat-ready soldiers.
The programme, which was originally designed as a five-week basic infantry course, has continuously adapted to Ukraine's evolving needs, ensuring troops receive the most relevant and effective training.
Recruits are taught weapons handling, battlefield first aid, the law of armed conflict, patrol tactics and rural environment awareness during the course.
More than 1,000 British military personnel have been deployed to lead the programme, providing each recruit with between 65 and 75 pieces of essential kit worth £4,500.
Recognising the growing demands of the war, the UK expanded Interflex in early 2023 to include training for Ukrainian fast jet pilots and marines.
Over 1,000 Ukrainian marines have since been trained by the Royal Marines and Army Commandos, further strengthening Ukraine's ability to defend its territory.
Interflex has also produced over 500 combat medics, trained combat engineers, and trained crews how to use the 14 UK-supplied Challenger 2 main battle tanks.
Furthermore, over 50 Ukrainian healthcare professionals including emergency/trauma surgical teams have been trained.
Better Prepared
According to the National Audit Office, nearly 90% of Ukrainian troops trained under Operation Interflex reported feeling better prepared for the realities of combat.
The skills and experience gained through the programme have directly contributed to Ukraine's resilience on the battlefield.
Beyond training, the UK has provided more than £12.8bn in aid to Ukraine since the war began, including £7.8bn in military assistance.
As the conflict continues, Operation Interflex remains a vital component of Ukraine's defence, ensuring its soldiers are equipped with the knowledge, skills and confidence to fight against Russian aggression.
