US military test-launches Minuteman III missiles in a show of readiness
The US has test-fired two Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM), demonstrating the US fleet's readiness.
Testing took place at the Vandenberg Space Force Base in California, with a joint team of Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen supported by Space Force Guardians launching the missiles which were unarmed.
US Space Force emphasised that the tests were "not the result of current world events" and part of routine and periodic activities.
According to the USSF, these tests have happened more than 300 times before.
The launch intended to demonstrate that their nuclear deterrent is "safe, secure, reliable and effective to deter 21st-century threats and reassure our allies".
