The military world marked Anzac Day on Monday - a day of national remembrance in Australia and New Zealand.

The occasion remembers the thousands of troops from the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps (Anzacs) who landed on the shores of Gallipoli in 1915, during the First World War.

Thousands of soldiers died in the campaign, which ended in failure and the withdrawal of Allied troops in December the same year.

In Australia and New Zealand, 25 April has become a day to remember those killed in all wars, while commemorative events are held around the world.
