The Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 has opened applications for 2,000 volunteer roles, in partnership with United by 2022, a charity founded to continue the legacy of the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.

Volunteers will work across all areas of the events, with at least 25% of roles reserved for members of the Armed Forces community and another quarter allocated to residents of England's second city and the West Midlands.

The volunteers will play a role in building positive experiences for competitors, their families and friends and everyone attending the games.

The announcement comes after Prince Harry, the founder and patron of the Invictus Games Foundation, was seen for the first time in public last month, since returning to the UK, at the inaugural Invictus Spirit Awards for wounded veterans at the Old Royal Naval College in Greenwich in south-east London.

"Volunteers are the spirit of every Invictus Games. They create the moments that competitors, families, friends and spectators remember long after the Games have ended," said Helen Helliwell, the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 CEO.

"As a volunteer, you're not just supporting an event, you'll play a part in someone's recovery journey, and help shape an inclusive, community-driven Games where every interaction matters."

There is a wide variety of roles to suit every experience level, including in sport operations, ceremonies, accessibility services, participating nations, media operations and venue delivery, meaning that everyone can get involved.

However, applicants must be over the age of 18.

Excitement builds for Birmingham's Invictus Games

Through United by 2022's volunteer collective, the charity has developed a workforce of more than 2,500 volunteers who help support major events and community festivals across the West Midlands.

"We're delighted to be working with the Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 to create opportunities for people to be part of an extraordinary event while delivering a lasting volunteering legacy for the West Midlands," Nicola Turner, United by 2022's CEO, said.

The Invictus Games will take place from 10-27 July next year, and will feature 550 wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans from 25 nations competing in 12 adaptive sports to support their recovery and inspire others through their resilience.

Applications are now open. To find out more and apply, visit: https://www.invictusgames2027.org/volunteer

Tickets for Invictus Games Birmingham 2027 are also now on sale, giving spectators the opportunity to support competitors and experience the spirit of the Games first-hand.
