Kyle Booth falls short of 50m breaststroke final berth at Glasgow Commonwealth Games

RAF swimmer Corporal Kyle Booth has missed out on a place in the men's 50m breaststroke final at the Commonwealth Games, after finishing 13th overall in the semi-final heats.

Cpl Booth placed seventh in the second semi-final group with a time of 28.06 seconds, just 0.55 of a second off reaching the top eight to advance.

South Africa's Michael Houlie, who holds the Games record in the men's 50m breaststroke, qualified for the finals in the top spot with England's Adam Ramsay-Peaty also advancing to the final.

Cpl Booth also competed in the men's 100m breaststroke earlier in the Games, where he failed to reach the time needed to progress into the semi-final.

Speaking to BFBS Forces News before the Commonwealth Games, Cpl Booth plans to focus on his military career after the Games.

He said: "I think after this I'm going to focus on my job going back to Halton training Phase 1 recruits, which I really, really enjoy. It's a lot more fun than I thought it'd be.

"It's an amazing career to have so I probably won't be going for that. I'll probably take another two years out."
