Royal Navy men scrape through to Hampshire Cup quarter finals

Watch: The Royal Navy senior men's team play Hamble FC in the Hampshire Cup third round.

The Royal Navy Senior Men’s team have progressed to the quarter final of the Servio Hampshire Senior Cup after they defeated Hamble FC 0-1 in the third round.

A solitary goal by Rhys Thomas in the second half was enough to beat a strong Hamble FC team on their home ground at The Abbey.

Wessex League side Hamble FC found themselves down to 10 players after goalkeeper Henry Newman was handed a red card for handling the ball outside the penalty area.

The Navy have been on a good run of form since they embarked on their Hampshire Cup journey in September under the leadership of new head coach Lieutenant Commander Chris James.

The Navy will play in the quarter finals when the tournament resumes in January with the draw yet to be announced.
